We are pleased to announce that Brady Eckert, a PhD candidate in physics, was selected as a 2023 US Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science Graduate Student Research (SCGSR) awardee. The SCGSR program provides graduate thesis research opportunities at DOE laboratories to outstanding U.S. graduate students to prepare them for STEM careers critically important to the DOE Office of Science mission. Brady will be doing research at Brookhaven National Laboratory. Congratulations, Brady!

Brady Eckert
PhD candidate in physics

Brady completed his undergraduate education at Drake University in Des Moines, IA studying physics and astronomy. He is currently a PhD candidate studying neutrinoless double-beta decay under advisor Dr. Michelle Dolinski. He is a part of the nEXO collaboration which is designing a next-generation enriched xenon time projection chamber. For nEXO, he has performed simulation analysis of bremsstrahlung events in liquid xenon, and he is currently testing the performance of light collection technology to be used in the future detector.

The Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science Graduate Student Research (SCGSR) Program provides supplemental awards to outstanding U.S. graduate students to pursue part of their graduate thesis research at a DOE laboratory in areas that address scientific challenges central to the Office of Science mission. The research projects are expected to advance the graduate awardees’ overall doctoral research and training while providing access to the expertise, resources, and capabilities available at the DOE national laboratories.
